Welcome Message
Welcome to my ‘Second Voyager’ blog.
First off, thank you for visiting and I hope you will find the posts interesting. I will most probably be rambling about my newly associated ’home’ as the immigration officer called it ‘your home’ and my stay in the states. Yes, that is the United States of America. After about 10 years in the latter, I travelled about 10 hours north and ‘landed’ in Canada a couple of weeks ago. Like many other immigrants I saw at YMCA this morning, I am hopeful and very much looking forward to the days yet to unfold.
For the time being, I guess I will be flashing back.
In case you are wondering why ‘second voyager’, well why not! Okay, I admit the name ‘voyager’ was taken. Then, I saw a lot of ‘second cup’ coffee shops here. Besides, it only makes sense as this is my second time migrating to another country.
Again, welcome!

How’s the life in Canada? Are Canadians very different from the Americans? Good luck up there!
Things are great and there are a few differences here and there. I hope to share them later.
Thanks Tao.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I recently landed in Canada as well. Blessings for your second voyager life in Canada!
Thanks..
Hi Emerson,
You mentioned that you took out the expired visa page from the old passport and you just had the new passport with you. How about if one has old and new passport together while travelling and the expired visa is in the old passport? Can they use AVR having new and old passport together? Please share you opinion. Thanks.
Yes, we would have to present BOTH passports (the original expired visa in the passport it was issued) and AVR would have worked without any problem. If the law is still in affect, I believe it would still work. I would triple check at their website just to ensure that this exemption is still in effect.
Thank you very much for your quick reply. That helps

. The AVR is still in effect…
Hi emerson11,
What all document one need to apply for the health card? I will be landing in vancouver next week, so would appreciate any advice from you. Thanks…
The proof of residency, passport and the landing paper.
You need to have a lease, phone bill, credit card bill or something to prove that you live in BC. The health care is free by the way. We have to wait for about 3 months. It starts counting from the day you land, not from the day you apply for the health card. But the guy warn that we won’t want to wait too long as it might take about a week or two to process. So, the earlier the better. They took a picture right there and told me to wait for the mail. And sure enough it showed up right on time.
Best of luck.
Thanks emerson11. I am back to USA using AVR.
When I landed in Vancouver, the Immigration officer did not even asked for good to follow. I showed them my list and they said that you need to call this 1800******* when you are finally moving with your stuff to canada. Did you experience the same? Please share your thoughts. Thanks again.
Great to know that AVR worked for you. Well, I didn’t have a list of goods to follow.
